Abstract
In a personal interpretation of global individual responsibility, this essay explores practical issues concerning migration and refugees. It is by no means scientifically proven, nor does it intend to be: it is one person’s interpretation of her role as a global citizen, and a tale of practical experiences and cultural encounters. It aims to make a case for a bottom-up approach when it comes to finding solutions, and creating policy, for refugee integration. It focuses on access to the European labor market, because having work is a key ingredient of successful integration. As such it explores work as an integration tool in the Netherlands, using case studies as experienced by NewBees, a local social enterprise.
