About this book
In the 18th century, Göttingen was at the heart of the Enlightenment. It was also the site of two Freemason lodges, gathering places for noblemen and citizens, for professors and students. The brothers practiced their traditions together, corresponded, welcomed travelers, and supported those in need. Yet the lodges were not strangers to conflict and exclusion. The book presents the first source-based day-to-day history of the Freemason lodges.
