The history of Germany since 1945 is, among other things, a history of migration and integration, as illustrated by the flight and expulsion of populations following the Second World War, the mass desertion of East Germans to the West, the construction of the Berlin Wall in 1961, the importation of guest workers, and the arrival of war refugees in the 1990s. Historians and legal scholars outline this often-neglected history.

Raphaela Etzold war wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Lehrstuhl für Bürgerliches Recht, Deutsche und Europäische Rechtsgeschichte an der Universität Regensburg und arbeitet derzeit als Staatsanwältin in Amberg.

Martin Löhnig ist Lehrstuhlinhaber für Bürgerliches Recht, Deutsche und Europäische Rechtsgeschichte und Kirchenrecht an der Universität Regensburg.

Thomas Schlemmer ist wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Institut für Zeitgeschichte München‒Berlin und stellvertr. Chefredakteur der Vierteljahrshefte für Zeitgeschichte.
