Multikulturelle Bibliotheksarbeit in einer multikulturellen Gesellschaft

„Multikulturelle Bibliotheksarbeit“ - handelt es sich hierbei um eine Worthülse der 90er Jahre? Wie und unter welchen Bedingungen haben sich die Bibliotheken in der Vergangenheit und in der Gegenwart mit der ethnischen, fremdsprachigen und kulturellen Vielfalt der Gesellschaft auseinandergesetzt? Dies sind die Fragestellungen, die die Autorin in einer Diplomarbeit an der HBI Stuttgart im Herbst 93 bearbeitet hat. Sie zeigt darin auf, daß der größte Teil der Öffentlichen Bibliotheken es von jeher vernachlässigt hat, die multikulturellen Herausforderungen der Gesellschaft bibliothekarisch umzusetzen. Es werden aber auch Veränderungsmöglichkeiten für die Bibliotheken vorgestellt, bei denen deutlich wird, daß Angebote für AusländerInnen nicht als - exotische - bibliothekarische Sonderaufgabe angesehen werden müssen.

Multicultural libraries in a multicultural society? How cosmopolitan is the public library?

„Multicultural librarianship“: Is this a „Worthülse“ of the nineties? How have the public libraries worked on the ethnic, foreign languaged and cultural variety of the society in the past and nowadays? These are the formulations of questions, which the author worked out in a dissertation at the HBI Stuttgart in 1993. She points out, that the most part of the libraries have always neglected to convert the - multi - cultural challenges of the society into library services. But the dissertation shows also possibilities of changes for the public libraries, which make clear, that services for foreigners must not be respected as a „special“ library service.

Le travail de bibliothèque multiculturel - une „Worthülse“ (mot vide de sens) des année 90? Comment et sous quelles conditions les bibliothèques ont-elles réflèchi dans le passé et dans le présent sur la multiciplicité éthnique et culturelle? Cela sont les termes du problème que l’autrice a traité dans une thèse de diplôme à la HBI de Stuttgart en automne 1993. Elle y montre que la plus grande partie des bibliothèques publiques a négligé depuis toujours la transposition des provocations multiculturelles de la société dans le monde bibliothécaire. On présente aussi des possibilités de changement pour les bibliothèques tout en mettant en valeur que les soins apportés aux étrangers ne forment pas des tâches spéciales et exotiques.
