Abstract

The instrumental technique of electropalatography (EPG) provides real-time spatio-temporal information on tongue-palate contacts during speech. In this paper various different systems of EPG are briefly reviewed, and the Edinburgh system, its limitations and its applications in disciplines such as experimental phonetics, education of the deaf, speech pathology and oral physiology are discussed.
