Crisis or the media?

Some preliminary reflections

Abstract

This is the introduction to the edited volume which clarifies the main conceptual and analytical framework adopted in the book. In this approach, ‘crisis’ is viewed as a form of mediated social practice and is placed within the framework of a broader ‘politics of crisis’ brought to life in and by the media. The chapter reviews the relevant literature on mediated representations of and discourses on crisis, and provides an overview of the chapters that follow.
