This chapter is in the book Optimization in Chemical Engineering

Abstract

Although there have been several advances in the development of optimization strategies over the last few decades, there are still challenges in the area. This chapter discusses the main areas of development identified by the authors for the following years, where a detailed analysis of the complex interactions in real-world systems is mandatory to make better decisions in fields where chemical engineering has influence. The chapter is focused on three main areas of study: the development of efficient optimization algorithms, the use of data-based approaches, and the development of powerful computational hardware.
