this historical-critical edition of the Baroque novel The Asian Banise fills a gap in research. Although the Banise was the most popular novel prior to Goethe’s Werther, until now there have only been two reprints (long out-of-print) of non-authorized editions. Long overdue, this book is the historical-critical edition of the original first edition of 1689 and contains detailed commentaries.
