This volume of the Index Emblematicus deals with three early 17th-century works: Remaines of a Greater Worke Concerning Britaine, by William Camden / The Mirrour of Maiestie, by H.G. / Amorum Emblematta by Otto van Vee.

A series of concordances, indexes, and lists makes the volume extremely accessible. Because of the unusual nature of the source material, a lengthy introductory essay is provided to explain the indexing of the text.

Reproduces four late 16th century English emblem books, providing brief critical and bibliographic introductions, translations.

The object of this work is identification rather than interpretation. Together with those which will follow, it is an important step toward the establishment of an essential foundation on which to build emblem studies.

By making the emblem books accessible to modern scholars in this fashion, the Index will enhance the study not only of literature, but also of the history of art, culture, religion, and symbol.
