About this book

Bertholdsburg Castle towers up in the center of the small Thuringian city of Schleusingen in the southernmost foothills of the Thuringian Forest. The impressive Renaissance site was named after Berthold VII, the most important member of the House of Henneberg. Situated on a mountain spur, the striking Renaissance site can barely be made out from the northeast, but this impression is misleading with respect to the historical structure of the castle and city. People approaching the location from the southwest can still sense the imposing impression that the high walls and towers of the former center of power of the princely Counts of Henneberg once made on its visitors. Today, Bertholdsburg Castle houses the Naturhistorische Museum.

Guide to Thuringia’s oldest residential palace – a Renaissance building with picturesque views
