The article titled “Osteopathic Graduate Medical Education” (J Am Osteopath Assoc. 2003;103:513-522) included a computational error. The number of residents in training for the 2002–2003 academic year, presented in Table 7, failed to reflect internal medicine and obstetrics/gynecology residents. The corrected total number of residents in training for the 2002–2003 academic year is 2532. This correction affects the narrative discussion of Table 7. The corrected narrative is:

“Table 7 provides information on osteopathic residency training positions. There were 521 AOA-approved residency programs in the 2002–2003 academic year, representing a 2.6% increase over the 508 AOA-approved programs in the 2001–2002 academic year. There were 2532 residents in AOA-approved training in 2002–2003, representing a 1.3% increase from the 2499 residents in training during 2001–2002.”

M. Jay Porcelli, DO, MHPE, author of the article, “Why Are Our Patients Still in Pain? Finding a Balance in Treating Patients for Nonmalignant Pain” (J Am Osteopath Assoc. 2003;104:73-75) was mistakenly identified on page 73 as vice president of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP). At the time the article was published, Dr Porcelli was president of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, his 1-year term having begun March 2003.

The JAOA regrets the error.
