Abstract

This chapter examines the relationship between shifting divisions of power and the degree of variation in social assistance payments in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. It uses multilevel modelling controlling for both individual and municipal characteristics. It reviews the literature in power shifts and inequality before discussing Nordic reforms. It then presents the data and the method used, results and conclusions.
