Environmental Care and Consumer Protection – Example for the Official Survey of Laundry Detergents and Cleansing Agents

Abstract

The official survey of detergents and cleansing agents includes both: the environmental care by overlooking the regulations of the Washing and Cleaning Act and the consumer protection, which is established in the Food and Consumer Goods Act and the Chemical Law.

The work of the official survey was illustrated by example of the analytics and assessment of fragrances in laundry detergents and cleansing agents and the use of limonene as solvent was shown. The results of the examinations were presented.

Kurzfassung

Umwelt- und Verbraucherschutz – Beispiel für die amtliche Überwachung von Wasch- und Reinigungsmitteln

Die amtliche Überwachung von Wasch- und Reinigungsmitteln umfasst sowohl den Umweltschutz, durch die Überwachung nach dem Wasch- und Reinigungsmittelgesetz, als auch den Verbraucherschutz, der im Lebensmittel- und Bedarfsgegenständegesetz und im Chemikalienrecht verankert ist.

Die Arbeit der amtlichen Überwachung wird am Beispiel der Analytik und Beurteilung von Duftstoffen in Wasch- und Reinigungsmitteln und Limonen als Lösungsmittel veranschaulicht. Ergebnisse der Untersuchungen werden dargestellt.

Dr. Astrid Rohrdanz, born in 1955, studied from 1973 to 1978 food chemistry at the TU Hannover and the TU Braunschweig. She obtained ScD in food chemistry from the TU Braunschweig in 1982. Since 1992 she is working at the Lower Saxony Federal State Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety (LAVES), Institute for Consumption Goods Lüneburg and since 1993 she is working in the offical surveillance of laundrydetergents and cleansing agents in Lower Saxony.

Evamaria Kratz, born in 1957, studied food chemistry at the Technical University in Karlsruhe. She was employed for 10 years in the food industry as manager of R&D and joined the, “Chemisches- und Veterinäruntersuchungsamt Karlsruhe” in 1993. She is working now in official surveillance of laundrydetergents, cleansing agents, household chemicals and commodities.
