Abstract

Synthesis and properties of two iridium(III) complexes (1 and 2) isolated from the same system upon change in organic solvent, are presented. 1 is a mononuclear compound with two bidentate oxime ligands linked by a strong intramolecular hydrogen bond and with two chlorido ligands in the central Ir3+ ion coordination sphere. 2 is a binuclear centrosymmetric anionic complex with two Ir3+ ions double-bridged by chlorido ligands and three terminal chlorido ligands further coordinated to two sodium cations to form a characteristic aggregate with acetonitrile molecules completing coordination spheres of the metal ions. Both 1 and 2 may help to develop a route to products analogous to Co(II) SMMs (Single Molecule Magnets) also as starting materials.
