Copper(II) silicates and germanates with chain structures I. CaCuGe2O6, a strongly deformed pyroxene*

Published/Copyright: August 25, 2010

Abstract

CaCuGe2O6 has an extremely distorted pyroxene structure with P21/c, a = 10.198 Å,b = 9.209 Å, c = 5.213 Å, β = 105.73° and Z = 4. The final R-value is Rw = 0.028. The coordination polyhedron of copper is a deformed Jahn-Teller octahedron; Ca has an irregular 7 + 1 coordination. Half of the Ge atoms occupy tetrahedra forming Ge2O6 chains which are arranged in layers as typical for pyroxenes. The other half is located in trigonal bipyramids GeO5 which are linked to layers Ge4O12. Both layer types alternate along [unk].
