The crystal structure of synthetic Tl3SbS4

Published/Copyright: August 25, 2010

Abstract

The crystal structure of a new synthetic sulfosalt, Tl3SbS4, has been determined. Synthetic Tl3SbS4 crystallizes in the triclinic space group P1 with a = 6.285(1) Å, b = 6.364(1) Å, c = 11.647(1) Å, α = 94.61(1)°, β = 98.51(2)°, γ = 103.93(1)°, Z = 2. The structure was determined by three dimensional Patterson synthesis and refined to a final R-value of 0.07 for all observed reflections.

The six independent Tl atoms in the Tl3SbS4 structure are surrounded by six, seven or eight S atoms in form of an irregular polyhedron. The two Sb atoms are coordinated by four S atoms in form of an almost ideal tetrahedron. The SbS4 tetrahedra are isolated. The structure is built up on a three dimensional network of Tl polyhedra and SbS4 tetrahedra.
