Abstract

Upon heating AlB10 single crystals in air, a white, needle-like phase begins to appear on the surface of the crystals at about 700°C; this has been identified as 2Al2O3 · B2O3. When heated in a helium atmosphere at 950°C, it transforms to a phase having a rhombohedral cell with a = 6.97 Å, α = 68.4°.
