Applications of organic phase change materials for thermal comfort in buildings

He received his doctoral degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi (1989). His research interests are renewable and alternate energy sources and energy saving for sustainable development. He is also involved in consulting for industry and for different organizations in addition to the work in rural areas. He has completed various projects related to renewable energy and rural welfare. Abstract

Research in the use of phase change materials for buildings has successfully shown that use of phase change materials results in savings and the environmentally benign use of premium energy. Research work in thermal comfort using phase change materials needs to be more compatible with other building materials. This article reviews the preparation and utilization of various organic phase change materials investigated by researchers for thermal comfort in buildings. The effect of mixing of different phase change materials and ensuing chemical processes on the melting point and latent heat was reviewed.

Satendra P. Singh presently is head of the School of Energy and Environmental Studies, Devi Ahilya University Indore, India.
