Dear readers
We dedicate this issue to our founding editor, Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Günter Petzow, who was born on 08 July 1926, 95 years ago. To this day, all of us in our field benefit from his spirited initiatives and visionary ideas on metallography. In this issue, we would therefore like to let congratulators from all over the world have their words, and all technical contributions are dedicated to you personally, dear Petz. For once, I will also allow myself a very personal note, because we are connected by a very special friendship. This picture shows us at the Petzow tetrahedron, so far the landmark of the research topics at the Stuttgart PML. I am pleased that, as DGM President, I was presented with this tetrahedron by the DGM Honorary President Günter Petzow for my entrance to the institute and I take the liberty of presenting our own interpretation in the section “What can Günter Petzow’s tetrahedron mean now?”. The metallographic study of the Frankfurt Bauhaus kitchen, also 95 years old, was co-authored by Peter Paul Schepp, the longtime executive director of the German Society for Materials Science. Liebe Leserinnen und Leser
dieses Heft widmen wir unserem Gründungsherausgeber, Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Günter Petzow, der am 08. Juli 1926, also vor 95 Jahren, geboren wurde. Bis heute profitieren wir alle in unserem Fachgebiet von seinen beherzten Initiativen und visionären Ideen zur Metallographie. In diesem Heft möchten wir deshalb auch Gratulanten aus der ganzen Welt zu Wort kommen lassen, und alle Fachbeiträge sind Dir, lieber Petz, persönlich gewidmet. Ich erlaube mir ausnahmsweise auch eine sehr persönliche Note, denn uns verbindet eine ganz besondere Freundschaft. Dieses Bild zeigt uns am Petzow-Tetraeder, bisher Wahrzeichen der Forschungsthemen am Stuttgarter PML. Ich freue mich, dass ich als DGM-Präsident diesen Tetraeder vom DGM-Ehrenpräsidenten Günter Petzow für meinen Institutseingang überreicht bekam und erlaube mir, unsere eigene Interpretation im Abschnitt „Was Günter Petzow‘s Tetraeder nun bedeuten kann“, zu präsentieren. Die metallographische Untersuchung der ebenfalls 95-jährigen Frankfurter Bauhaus-Küche wurde mitverfasst von Peter Paul Schepp, dem langjährigen Geschäftsführer der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Materialkunde.
