15th International Conference on Polymers and Organic Chemistry (POC-2014)

The 15th International Conference on Polymers and Organic Chemistry (POC-2014) took place in Timişoara, Romania, 10–13 June 2014. The conference was organized by Politehnica University Timişoara with the support of the Timişoara branch of the Romanian Society of Chemistry (SChR) and the Institute of Chemistry Timişoara of the Romanian Academy.

Organized under the sponsorship of IUPAC, the conference continued the tradition of previous meetings as a biannual meeting alternating between continents. Since its inception in 1982 in Lyon, France, POC conferences present, discuss, and share recent results in the fields of polymer and organic chemistry, in order to promote their importance in science and technology. The most recent POC conferences were held in Tianjin, China; San Diego, CA, USA; Prague, Czech Republic; Okazaki, Japan; Montreal, Canada; and Doha, Qatar.

The main goal of POC-2014 was to share the most recent information between scientists dealing with synthesis and applications of polymers. POC-2014 was a successful scientific event attended by over 100 registered participants from 28 countries. The conference presentations focused on six topics:

  • advances in polymer synthesis

  • polymers for separations and environmental protection

  • polymers in medicine, biochemistry and agriculture

  • novel functional polymers

  • polymers for catalysis and energy applications

  • biocatalysis in polymer synthesis.

The conference featured two keynote speakers: Dr. Bogdan C. Simionescu, “Gh. Asachi” Technical University of Iasi and “PetruPoni” Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry, Romania, who lectured on “Polymer engineering focusing on drug/gene delivery and tissue engineering: From simple towards complex architectures and hybrid materials” and Dr. Ghislain David, Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Montpellier, France, who lectured on “Phosphorus-containing polymers: New trends”.

The conference also featured 12 plenary invited lectures and 28 oral presentations. Two poster sessions with 63 presentations showcased the latest results obtained by younger scientists.
