Hong Yin
Hong Yin is a professor at the School of Journalism and Communication, Tsinghua University. His research interests include film and television communication, mass media, and cultural industries studies. He is the vice-chairman of the China Film Association, the China Literature and Art Critics Association, and the Beijing Film Association.
Yanbin Sun is a lecturer at the School of Management of Beijing Film Academy. She holds a Doctor of Sociology degree from Peking University and has completed a postdoctoral research in film industry economics at Tsinghua University. Her main research areas include the Chinese film industry, the world film industry, and film sociology.
Abstract
Against the backdrop of the difficult global film recovery, the Chinese film industry is in a period of profound adjustment. There is dual pressure from the insufficient supply of high-quality products and the inadequate film consumption demand, leading to a decline in many major industry and market indicators. Overall, the quality of film production has improved, with an increase in forms and genres. The imported film market has gradually picked up, and the accelerated loss of young audiences has become a characteristic of the year. Enhancing the “cinematic nature” (影院性, Yingyuanxing) of products and maintaining the “youthful vitality” (年轻态, Nianqingtai) of films are inevitable choices to prolong the adolescence of the industry.
About the authors
Hong Yin is a professor at the School of Journalism and Communication, Tsinghua University. His research interests include film and television communication, mass media, and cultural industries studies. He is the vice-chairman of the China Film Association, the China Literature and Art Critics Association, and the Beijing Film Association.
