EOS Annual Meeting EOSAM 2016 in Berlin
Following the successful EOSAM 2 years ago, the European Optical Society (EOS) returns to Berlin from the 26th to the 30th September 2016, for the EOS Annual Meeting (EOSAM) in Adlershof. Berlin, the German capital, is a creative metropolis located at the crossroads of the major trans-European routes, a dynamic city with lots of historical attractions. The EOS’s landmark 25th Anniversary will be celebrated in Germany’s leading science and technology park at Aldershof, Berlin. The EOS has served for 25 years as the forum for all individuals, companies, organizations, educational institutions, as well as learned and professional societies, enabling the development of optics.

Summer school on Metrology for Thin Film Materials
The conference week starts with tutorials for students on Monday. These tutorials cover aspects of the topical meetings during the week. A summer school on Metrology for Thin Film Materials will take place all day, organized within the EMPR project ENG53 ThinErgy. On Monday evening, Berlin welcomes EOS in a reception for the EOSAM attendees. Inspiring speeches along with a networking reception will give the attendees a great start for a week filled with plenary, invited and contributed talks and a lot more.
Keynote by Eric Betzig
Speakers from around the world will take the stage at Adlershof during the week. We are pleased to announce, that representatives from our partner organizations from China (COS), Japan (OSJ) and South Korea (OSK) will be in Berlin and will each give a presentation in the opening ceremony. An honorary session on Tuesday includes the keynote presentation by Dr. Eric Betzig, one of the Nobel Prize winners in Chemistry in 2014 for ‘The development of super-resolved fluorescence microscopy’. Dr. Betzig works on novel optical imaging tools in an effort to open new windows into molecular, cellular, and neurobiology. During the honorary session, we will also hear about the 25-year history of the EOS, presented by Anna Consortini. The EOS Fellows Ceremony and Award ceremonies precede the EOS annual general assembly (AGA), to which all EOS members are welcome to attend on Tuesday evening, 27 September.
Exhibition starts on Wednesday
On Wednesday, 28 September, we open the industrial exhibition, which will take place for 2 days, until Thursday afternoon, 29 September. On Wednesday evening, September 28, the conference dinner will be held for which separate registration is required. We will board a boat for an exciting dinner cruise on the River Spree through the city of Berlin. The EOSAM also includes a special session on the ‘Grand Challenges of Photonics’, being organized for the fifth time. A special session for partners in EU projects will present interesting project results in the field of optics and photonics. We finish the week by awarding the best student oral and poster presentations, sponsored by Carl Zeiss.
We warmly welcome you to Berlin and hope you enjoy the Annual Meeting!
