Abstract

Fans and blowers are well-known devices from the early days. At the beginning of this introductory chapter, the historical development of these devices is briefly reviewed. Another major task of this chapter is to provide all the essential information to the interested reader for studying the rest of the book, such as blower and fan definitions, classifications, applications, as well as the fundamental laws of their operation. Important features of fan and blower technology such as energy saving are also briefly reviewed, and directions for further study in this important area are given. Finally, the future trends and challenges in their technology are summarized.
