Abstract
The 2D graphene-derivatives-nanosheets-based polymer composites, with their distinctive multifunctional properties, are leading candidate materials in many technological applications. Therefore, global interest toward green/clean production of such materials has recently grown extensively in both the scientific research and industrial communities, for a clean environment and to address human health safety concerns. In this regard, scientific researches focus on three main points. First is on the green synthesis of 2D graphene derivatives nanosheets (2D GDs). Second is on surface functionalization of 2D GDs, for subsequent good interfacial coupling with polymers within the 2D GDs polymer composites by eco-friendly surface capping agents. Third is on compounding of 2D GDs with polymers for composites preparation, through clean techniques. Numerous developments and innovations have been and are still proposed in the research on these three issues. The challenges are to produce 2D GDs polymer composites via eco-friendly facile scalable manufacture technology with distinctive structural quality and consequently outstanding functional properties, high productivity and competitive costs. On the other hand, nowadays the integration of green manufactured graphene-based polymer composite systems in various technological applications such as the energy, biomedical, environmental remediation, electronics, aerospace, defense and packaging fields, is the center of industrial sector attention.
