JOACHIM WACH History of Religion, 1898-1955 The University of Chicago, The Joseph Regenstein Library, 1100 East 57th Street, Chicago, Illinois 60637. The JOACHIM WACH PAPERS consist of manuscripts of published and unpublished works, notes and research files, course materials, manuscripts and correspondence relating to post-humous publications, as well as a small amount of corres-pondence from the 1940s and 1950s. The main body of the correspondence was destroyed at the time of Wach's death. Family letters were taken by Wach1s sister, along with family photographs (Switzerland). The Wach collection was transferred to the Archives in 1980 by Wach1s literary ex-ecutor, Dr. Joseph Kitagawa, Dean of the Chicago Divinity School. Jo-seph Kitagawa and Mircea Eliade (1959). C3 Miscellaneous poems. C7 Manuscripts of published longer works: Das Verstehen, vol. I (1926). Sociology of Religion (1944). Types of Religious Experience (1951). The Comparative Study of Religion (1958). Understanding and Believing (1968). Manuscripts of essays, lectures, sermons: "Gegenwart und Bedeutung der American Episcopal Church." "Typische Formen des Selbstverständnis beim heuti-gen Menschen." "Eine neue katholische Philosophie der Religions-geschichte . " "The Expansion of Buddhism in the Far East." (1952). "The Christian Sacrifice." Sermon for Worldwide Communion Sunday. Unpublished manuscripts, incl.: "Freud." Full-length Ms. A. Group of unpub. essays collected together by Joseph Kitagawa. Course related materials, primarily holograph lecture notes prepared by Wach: "Introduction to the History of Religions." "Methods and History of the History of Religions." 708
