La 'Storia di Roma arcaica' di Dionigi d'Alicarnasso di EMILIO GABBA, Pavia /. Il giudizio che viene generalmente dato dell'opera storica di Dionigi d'Alicarnasso è negativo. Lo storico tedesco ED. SCHWARTZ e il critico francese M. EGGER1 concordano nel negare valore storico e critico alla Ta)|iaiicf] 'AQxaioXoyCa. Valutazioni più positive su punti o aspetti parziali non sono mancate, ma non hanno potuto annullare o ridurre il giudizio generale grave-mente sfavorevole. Dionigi non sarebbe altro che un rappresentante della peggiore storiografia retorica, carico di ogni difetto, privo di sensibilità e di veri interessi politici e storici. La situazione è per lo meno sconcertante. Dionigi ci ha lasciato anche alcune operette di teoria e di critica letteraria e stilistica, che sono giudicate, pur con i loro limiti, importanti e significative.
