About this book
This differentiated analysis of the Sangspruch verses by Der Kanzler, a poet of the late thirteenth century, shows that intertextuality is the central device used in the text production of Sangspruchdichtung, which responds to its precarious status as a genre: its verses reference more prestigious texts that are alien to the genre in order to participate in their authority while consolidating their own tradition by alluding to other Sangsprüche.
