Glossary II: Ho termsIn the following section Hoterms have been selected and commented on thathave appeared in the main bodyofthe book and in the texts provided in the ap-pendices. English denotations have been contextualized with notes from field-work wherethis was considered helpful forabetter understandingofconcepts,connotations, and ideas implied in expressions which have been listed alphabet-icallyaccordingtothe English spelling order.The spellingand meaning of Hoterms have been checked with Deeney2005,Hindi and Urdu terms with McGre-gor2011 and Gatzlaff-Hälsig2002.Terms marked (*) below have an entry of their own with additional informa-tion. The Roman script is usedneglectingdiacritic marks except for thosecaseswherethey constituteaphonemic distinction(jati*, jaṭi*). The colon (:) indicatesaglottalizedvowel. The length ofavowel is givenonlywhen it is phonemic (goe;goe:*; gōe:*).
