This regional historical study examines architecture and modernity during the Weimar Republic in various Bavarian cities. Buildings of this epoch may not at first glance seem to belong to the “New Architecture.” Yet it is apparent that, in the construction of private dwellings, churches, hospitals, and sports facilities, tradition-steeped Catholic Bavaria set its own accents that diverged from the North-German Prussian avant-garde.
