Abstract

Psychiatric Assessment Routines at an Observation Station for Children and Youths 1949-1989. Evaluating archival material from the children’s medical unit at University of Innsbruck psychological care center, the author demonstrates the ways in which medical, psychological and naturopathic treatment is structured by multiple rhythms and specific forms of timing. Focusing on young patients, being stationed due to alleged behavioral deficits, the article outlines the production of a daily routine in terms of observation, therapy, care and medicalization. This approach marks several time regimes bringing to light procedures of repetition that exert impact on the relations between those people who medicate and those individuals who are being treated.
