This book explores the intersection of Indigenous education and language policies implemented in early childhood education settings affected by socio-economic processes such as migration and tourism in Mexico. Rather than positioning these processes as the most prominent threats to language shift, the book shows how Indigenous education initiatives are tied to a never-ending bureaucracy – an inadvertent educational aim and route for marginalization. In this way, Indigenous schools cannot be framed as the only places where minoritized languages can be revitalized, unless we consider the material complexities hindering the educational promises carried out in Indigenous contexts for decades.
