Abstract

NH2CH2CH2SeOOH · HCl crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group P21/c with a = 7.85 ± 0.02, b = 10.08 ± 0.02, c = 7.96 ± 0.02 Å and β = 111 °35′ ± 15′, and Z = 4. The colorless transparent crystals grow in extremely thin sheets which cleave very readily perpendicular to a*. The structure is layered, an organic layer of molecules held together with hydrogen bonds alternating with an inorganic layer composed of Se atoms and Cl ions.
