Frauke Hogue graduated from Lette Verein in 1965. In 1967 she moved to Los Angeles to work for a fastener manufacturer. While teaching at ASM International Frauke developed “Practical Interpretation of Microstructures” consisting of over 300 mounts. Frauke mentored for Materials Camp in Cleveland and France.
Michael Schleicher is teacher of English at the Lette Verein Berlin and also works as teacher trainer. In the 2010 years he joined the department of metallography at Lette Verein and soon learned about ASM Materials Camps in France and the US. Experiencing the camps as an ideal learning environment for vocational students he has been promoting the concept ever since.
Abstract
ASM International, an organization like DGM, has more than 15,000 members worldwide. The society was founded in 1913 as the Steel Treaters Club in Detroit. Their headquarters have been in the Cleveland, Ohio, area since 1920. ASM International has 6 Affiliate Societies including the International Metallographic Society.
In 1952 the need for a focused effort in education in Material Science was recognized and the ASM Materials Education Foundation (ASM Foundation) was established. Their mission is as follows: develop and deploy materials science content and hands-on, minds-on instructional strategies to inspire, engage, and empower future generations to create STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) solutions for 21st century challenges.
The ASM Foundation has developed a multiprong approach to fulfil this mission and to draw young people to the field of materials science.

Expansion of Camps to Europe, India and Beyond
In addition, the ASM Foundation awards scholarships to undergraduate and community college students in materials science.
Kurzfassung
ASM International, eine Organisation wie die DGM, hat weltweit mehr als 15.000 Mitglieder. Die Gesellschaft wurde 1913 als „Steel Treaters Club“ in Detroit gegründet. Ihr Hauptsitz befindet sich seit 1920 in Cleveland, Ohio. ASM International hat sechs Partner-/ Tochter-Gesellschaften, darunter die International Metallographic Society.
Im Jahr 1952 wurde die Notwendigkeit einer gezielten Förderung der Ausbildung in der Materialwissenschaft erkannt und die ASM Materials Education Foundation (ASM Foundation) gegründet. Ihr Auftrag lautet wie folgt: Entwicklung und Einsatz von materialwissenschaftlichen Inhalten und praxisnahen Unterrichtskonzepten, um zukünftige Generationen zu inspirieren, zu begeistern und zu befähigen, MINT-Lösungen (Mathematik, Ingenieurwissenschaften, Naturwissenschaften und Technik) für die Herausforderungen des 21. Jahrhunderts zu entwickeln.
Die ASM Foundation hat einen mehrgleisigen Ansatz entwickelt, um diesen Auftrag zu erfüllen und junge Menschen für das Gebiet der Materialwissenschaften zu gewinnen.
